Making a James Bond prop
with AI and 3D printing.

Could reference photos and image-to-3D tools create a convincing decorative prop for an Aston Martin Vanquish? I refine the model, print it and try it on the actual car.

THE CHALLENGE

Turn a handful of photos into a physical prop.

The starting point is the decorative bonnet ornaments fitted to James Bond’s Aston Martin Vanquish in Die Another Day. I use reference photographs and AI-assisted image-to-3D tools to make a model that can be inspected, revised and printed.

THE BUILD

Three versions, each solving a different problem.

The first version was too large and heavy. The second improved print orientation and surface quality but still missed a screen-accuracy detail. For version three, I made a smaller and lighter design around the shape of the Aston Martin bonnet vent.

After printing, I prime, paint and weather the pieces, then use the Morpho UV printer to add colour and surface detail before trying the finished props on the car.

WHAT I LEARNED

AI can accelerate the model; judgement still does the making.

The project shows how quickly image-to-3D tools can create a workable starting point from photographs. Getting the result to fit and look right still takes human decisions about scale, geometry, print orientation, finishing and the real object it has to sit on.
